Karen is the Faculty Coordinator of the Master of Arts program, Applied Psychology in Higher Education Student Personnel Administration. She has 20 years of experience working in higher education in areas of Student Affairs, Leadership Development, Curriculum Development, and Mental Health and Wellness Programs. She currently works at Salem State University’s Counseling and Health Center and applies herself across these areas.
Additionally, she has been a professor at both private and public institutions teaching leadership and adult development, as well as counseling psychology courses to both emerging adults and adult learners—this latter group focuses on becoming student affairs administrators, counselors or teachers. She works with a large demographic of students from differing socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. She participates in professional educational groups including the Northeast Consortium of Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts.
She regularly presents at seminars and conferences and is called upon by local media to comment on issues regarding students and education. She works with the Essex Court system and the Massachusetts District Attorneys Office to provide prevention and intervention programs to college students.
She is trained as an executive coach with a specialization in utilizing leadership and emotional intelligent skills in the workforce and within higher education. Her experienced use of metrics includes 360-Degree approaches, Emotional IQ and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. As a senior consultant at the Education Alliance, she worked on strategic ways to attract/retain students and how to generate non-tuition revenue through program development. She worked with higher education institutions to develop new academic and certificate programs and develop marketing tools for these programs. She also focused on Enrollment Planning: providing assistance and guidance for increasing inquiry and applicant pools, conversion yield, retention rates and for penetrating new enrollment markets.She is a graduate of the University of Oregon and Lesley University.
