Leadership Psychology PsyD
Class of 2017
My name is Charles Allen and I am a student in our Leadership Psychology PsyD program. I am also a proud alumnus of William James College's Masters in Organizational Psychology program. In looking for a place to complete my graduate education, I wanted a place that provided an opportunity to meld both the practical and theoretical in terms of understanding organizations and how people interact within them. Furthermore, I wanted to pursue my degrees while actively pursuing my career. William James College was the only place that satisfied both of those needs while also allowing access to a fantastic community of fellow students and faculty.
So a bit about me. Currently, I am a Regional Operations Manager at Health Leads USA where I help coordinate the efforts of our National offfice and six regional sites to serve families in hospitals accross the United States. I am also the Teaching Assistant for the Leadership and Organizational Psychology department. Prior to this, I worked at the Posse Foundation’s Boston office, where I was responsible for managing their career program for over 400 Posse scholars, including stewarding partnerships with local public, private, and nonprofit organizations to maximize opportunities for Posse scholar employment. Prior to that, I worked at Boston Trust and Investment Management/Walden Asset Management as a Marketing Analyst, where I helped source new clients and manage performance tracking and asset management reporting for over 600 client accounts.
As far as my plans for my degrees, for my Doctorate I am planning to conduct research into how institutions of higher education prepare students to be successful leaders in the workforce. While there is much literature on what leaders do and how they do it, there is not so much on how or what is needed to create a successful leader. Our institutions of higher education have a rare opportunity in that they attract some of the best and brightest young people around the world. However, few take advantage of the opportunity of giving them practical skills and ideas to be successful leaders in public, private, and nonprofit organizations. Having an intimate understanding of how organizations work through my masters degree, my hopes long term are to work as a leader in higher education and/or a consultant to organizations in creating leadership development programs for young employees.
I am always open to talk about either the Organizational Psychology or Leadership Psychology programs. I am proud to say enrolling in these programs have been some of the best decisions I have ever made. I urge those of you interested to reach out to find out more. Trust me, it has been so worth it!!
