Certificate in Health Coaching
Health Coaching is a recently developed model in the coaching profession. Health coaches work with individuals one on one to help them set up and reach healthy lifestyles. Individual presentations span across a continuum from a person desiring to move from a sedentary and unhealthy life style to an improved set of health behaviors to a person living with a chronic illness who wants to make the most positive adaptation to the challenges of their illness. As healthcare moves towards accountable care, primary prevention and health promotion, health coaching offers a valuable service to individuals. In terms of prevention, the World Health Organization estimates that up to 80% of chronic illness may be preventable if life style changes, including healthy nutrition and regular exercise were practiced. Health Coaches guide individuals to make the often difficult transition to improved health behaviors. Coaches are employed in a variety of settings including health insurance companies, health maintenance organizations, primary care, behavioral health and in private practices. Our program trains licensed health care professionals to be ready to make a career change or to enhance and expand their current practice.
