Most recently, the Committee on Women in Psychology of the American Psychological Association recognized Dr. Contreras with the Emerging Leader for Women in Psychology Award.
The MA in Counseling Psychology in Global Mental Health (GMH) prepares students for careers to work with people and communities affected by the trauma of war, natural disasters, human trafficking, and gender and ethnic oppression and violence around the globe and in the United States. This webinar will be hosted by Michelle Harris a faculty member in our Expressive Arts Therapy program. Michelle Harris is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) and board certified registered art therapist (ATR-BC) who specializes in trauma sensitive art therapy with a cross-cultural lens. The use of expressive arts therapy encourages interaction, sharing and trust in a safe place. Our curriculum mirrors this. Students will learn the history, ethics and practice of expressive arts therapy, integrated with the core curriculum of the counseling psychology requirements, which focuses on resilience and the integration of diversity, difference and inclusion.
