Hello my name is Corey McConnell and I am from Swansea MA. I obtained my Masters of Arts degree in the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program at William James College. I chose William James College (WJC) because of the flexibility the ABA program permitted by allowing me to continue working while completing the program. I completed the program in one and one-half years, beginning in January and finishing in May of the following year. Students also have the option of completing the program in one year, enrolling in August and finishing the following August. The ABA program at WJC also provided me with a practicum mentor to supervise my field education hours. I was able to complete my practicum hours where I was employed, at an ABA program in a public school while completing my coursework. If your work place is not eligible for practicum hours, the ABA Program Director will assist you in finding a field site to complete your practicum hours. Classes for the ABA program are scheduled in the evening, allowing students to continue working full-time while going to school and completing their practicum hours.

I currently work with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and developmental disabilities at a public school (grades K-8) ABA program as a Positive Behavior Support Assistant. I have been working in the field with individuals with ASD and developmental disabilities since 2006 in a variety of settings including group homes, camps, job sites, ABA programs and schools. I plan to continue working in the field but hope to extend my experience into the area of occupational behavior management (OBM). One of my goals is to create a training program that will assist staff in ABA programs and schools to teach their students more effectively and efficiently.

Because this is an advanced program, my advice for current and future students is to stay organized and be ready to work. The program goes by quickly and it is much easier to accomplish your goals, tasks and assignments on time when you stay organized and focused. You are applying for graduate school to further your education and it is a serious commitment requiring time, dedication, and focus. The director and professors are exceptional teachers who are very approachable. If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to ask for clarification. Your practicum mentor and classmates are also good resources. I am happy to talk to you or answer any questions. Please send me an email at corey_mcconnell@williamjames.edu and I’ll get back to you. Good luck!
