Lock Haven University
Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Forensic and Correctional Counseling Area of Emphasis
Class of 2019
Hi Prospective Students!
I am from Bushkill, Pennsylvania; which is a small town in the Pocono Mountains. I discovered my love for psychology in high school. Later, I went to Lock Haven University to study psychology. My junior year of undergrad, I began looking for graduate schools. I found that not many schools have a forensic/correctional concentration. This was one of the aspects about William James that caught my attention. I applied to four schools in total; but, William James was always my first choice. I appreciate and respect the school’s devotion to experiential knowledge and cultural competence. When I visited for my interview day, all of the faculty and staff were welcoming and helpful. Also, I have a lot of family in Massachusetts; which was a personal reason for choosing this school.
I am now involved in ALANAA. ALANNA stands for African American, Latino, Asian American / Pacific Islander, Native American / Native Alaskan, and Arab American. This group works to support and celebrate diversity in the William James community. Joining this group is also a great way to meet other students in the school.
After I graduate with my masters from William James, I want to become a license mental health counselor and licensed clinical social worker. Then, I want to work as a mental health counselor and social worker in a facility for juvenile offenders. My goal is to help juvenile offenders realize that they can change and move their lives in a positive direction.
I want to congratulate you on pursuing your graduate degree. William James College is truly a great school. I recommend that you come and visit the campus and get a feel for the area. The faculty and staff are extremely supportive, and you will receive a fantastic education.
