Thank you for your interest in the Clinical PsyD program at William James College (WJC)! I am honored to serve as a student ambassador to connect with prospective students.  My name is LaTashia Raymond. I grew up in a small town in Morrilton, Arkansas.

I am a doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology program and I am currently enrolled in the Military Veteran Psychology concentration.  I am the APA Campus Ambassador for WJC, and I am pursing an emphasis in Latino Mental Health.  My hope is to join the Train Vets to Treat Vets program as well as becoming a scholar in the Black Mental Health Graduate Academy by the end of the Spring semester. My educational background includes a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Human Resource Management.

I have broad experiences ranging from serving in the United States Army for over twenty years, providing medical advocacy for sexual assault survivors (military and civilian), and working for both the Department of Defense and the Department of Veteran Affairs, etc.  I would love to share with you my journey in various settings and hear your professional goals.

My experiences as a Victim and Domestic Violence Advocate unmasked the devastation that trauma has on an individual and their community. This intrigued my interest in studying topics such as 1) sexual assault/trauma 2) coping mechanisms to traumatic events 3) misinterpretation of sexual cues 4) peer victimization 5) evidence-based solutions for trauma survivors.  I decided to pursue William James College doctoral program primarily because of the Military Veteran Program.  I aspire to serve our troubled military service members by becoming well versed in how individuals can better cope with the stresses of trauma in the military context.  The Military Veteran Program provides the theoretical and experiential training that is necessary to work with populations like these and I consider it a unique aspect of William James College.

WJC provides us with a comfortable environment that values each student’s uniqueness and facilitates personal growth.  As you adjust to your new environment and responsibilities, I will be the first to inform you that there will be a lot of trial and error within your first semester.  William James has a plethora of resources to assist you during your transition and throughout the duration of your educational journey; however, you must seek assistance when needed.
