Hi there prospective students!

I was born in Chicago, but I have lived in Newton, Massachusetts for most of my life. From a young age I have been fascinated with both psychology and criminal justice. Like many people I grew up watching Law & Order and one of my favorite characters, Dr. George Huang from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, was a forensic psychiatrist. His character was my first introduction to the field of forensic psychology and I knew it was a career I wanted to pursue.

I double majored in Psychology and Spanish at Smith College but I knew I wanted to pursue forensic psychology at the graduate level. I first heard about William James during my sophomore year of undergrad when Dr. Laboy held an information session at Smith. I was intrigued by the forensic mental health counseling program and I was already familiar with Newton so I made a mental note to look into William James more in the future.

Two years later when I began applying to Masters programs I remembered William James and decided to apply to their Master’s program. I applied to five different schools but William James was my top choice. When I visited for my interview day I was greeted warmly by a group of intelligent and caring staff members and I was impressed by the sense of the school's sense of community.

I wish you luck as you apply to graduate school. I know the process can be stressful and choosing a school can be difficult. My advice is to go to interviews and open houses so you can really get a feel for the environment of the school.
