My name is Priscilla Galera and I’m currently a second-year doctoral student in William James’ Clinical Psychology PsyD program. Originally from Florida, moving to MA has been a magnificent change and the William James community makes me feel right at home, even 1,500 miles away! As a young teenager, I always knew I wanted to study Psychology and be a doctor one day, little did I know, I’d be studying so far from a place I called home. I attended Florida International University where I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor’s in Psychology. Knowing I didn’t want to immerse myself in research, I opted for the Doctor of Psychology program. Now, I know you may be asking what got me to leave the Sunny State? Well, upon finishing my interview at William James College, I knew it was the graduate program for me. The community is welcoming and loving, willing to help at a moment’s notice. The faculty is dedicated and some of the best mentors you can have. And I mean, who doesn’t love Boston?

As a member of the Forensic Concentration, I plan to follow my passion for the justice system and psychology to become a Forensic Psychologist. During my undergraduate experience, I was able to counsel prisoners in a correctional institution, which is where I fell in love with the forensic sector of psychology and how intertwined the justice system and psychology truly are.

When choosing a graduate program, I encourage you to be demanding, be meticulous. Committing to a five-year program can be a tough task to grasp, but here at William James it is made attainable. The staff and faculty at William James are with you every step of the way, guiding you through your concerns and preparing you for every experience you will likely encounter. I encourage you to ask every question and don’t settle until you find the answers you are looking for. Be vulnerable and be open to new experiences. Connect with students who have been through the process and are now on the other end. The community at William James college is here for you and is ready to help you become the best version of yourself!

I welcome you to contact me for insight or with any concerns that may arise through this confusing time, as I can provide you first-hand experience and advice from a fellow graduate student. .
