Thank you for your interest in the Clinical PsyD program at William James College (WJC)! I am honored to serve as a student ambassador to connect with prospective students. My name is Ziyi Xiu. I grew up in Shandong, China and I am excited to hear that WJC is planning to create the Asian Mental Health Concentration.
I want to pursue a career as a practitioner-scholar dedicated to serving populations with diverse cultural backgrounds. I aspire to contribute to the knowledge base of cross-cultural psychology, to develop and implement effective psychological treatments and to educate clinicians of future generations. I am particularly interested in learning and distributing culturally sensitive assessments and interventions that enhance the youth and emerging adult population’s social-emotional development and mental health treatments.
My educational background includes a BS in Psychology, a Master’s Degree in Education and a second Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling. I have broad experiences ranging from school counseling/school psychology, hospitals, university counseling services, and community health agency. I would love to share with you my journey in various settings and hear your professional goals.
WJC provides us with a comfortable environment that values each student’s uniqueness and facilitates personal growth. I am learning new things every day and feel well supported by my peers. I want to reassure you that WJC has an excellent faculty team, various concentrations that can fulfill your specific interests, and great connections to practicum sites that will prepare you to become a successful psychologist!
