University of Wisconsin-Madison
Advanced Standing Clinical Psychology PsyD, Class of 2021
Children and Families of Adversity and Resilience (CFAR) Concentration
Thank you for your interest in the Clinical PsyD program at William James College (WJC)! I am honored to serve as a student ambassador to connect with prospective students. My name is Ziyi Xiu, an international student at WJC. I grew up in Shandong, China and came to the United States to pursue higher education. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Master’s Degree in Education from Harvard University and a second Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Boston College. I am delighted to continue my education at WJC to become a licensed psychologist.
I want to pursue a career as a practitioner-scholar dedicated to serving youth populations with diverse cultural backgrounds. I aspire to contribute to the knowledge base of child psychology, to develop and implement effective psychological treatments and to educate clinicians of future generations. I am particularly interested in learning and distributing culturally sensitive assessments and interventions that enhance the youth population’s social-emotional development and mental health treatments.
I have broad experiences ranging from school guidance counseling at a public high school, college support group experience at a University Counseling Center, in-home therapy services at a community health agency, as well as clinical work with children and adults in hospitals. I would love to share with you my journey in various settings and hear your professional goals. At last, I want to reassure you that WJC has an excellent faculty team who are well-known in the field, areas of concentrations that can fulfill your specific interests, and good connections to practicum sites that will prepare you to become a successful psychologist!
