The Campaign for William James College

The Campaign for William James College is raising $10 million to invest in five specific areas that we've identified as both critical needs—and exciting opportunities. By investing in the future of William James College, you share in our commitment to provide high quality, culturally appropriate mental health care to those in need—and to foster mental wellness in our homes, schools, workplaces, and beyond. Together, we can shift perspectives, open doors, and transform the way we approach mental health in our society. William James said, "Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does." Consider making a gift to The Campaign for William James College today.

The Campaign for William James College

Funds raised through The Campaign for William James College will enable us to build upon our established reputation for recognizing and responding to diverse needs; allow us to attract and train talented students; help us to support the teaching, research, and innovative efforts of our faculty; and provide resources to ensure that our infrastructure and environment positively contribute to teaching, learning, and to the betterment of our communities. We need your support—please make a gift today.

Keep reading to learn more about why we chose these five key areas of growth:

1 - Child and family mental health

We are actively equipping the next generation of professionals to meet the social and emotional needs of children and families at home and at school. Through increased funding for clinical research and program innovation, the expansion of our service-learning centers, and targeted investment in scholarships for students who are passionate about this work, we can deepen and extend our impact.

2 - Military and veterans psychology

Our Train Vets to Treat Vets program prepares veterans to meet the special mental health needs of their colleagues and families as those who have served our country return home. We are continuing to develop this unique program into a model that can be replicated across the country. We will invest in scholarships for veterans who are already eager to work within the military community as mental health providers and work to attract more men and women with military service to take on careers in mental health.

3 - Multicultural and global mental health

It's well known that the number of racial and ethnically diverse mental health professionals is woefully inadequate. William James College has been successful in recruiting Spanish-speaking faculty and students into applied psychology careers, and it is time to expand that effort to more communities. Through increased funding for multicultural clinical research and program innovation, diversity-focused scholarships and increased opportunities for cultural immersion experiences, we can expand our efforts to meet this ever-growing need.

4 - Advancing instructional innovation

The experience and excellence of our faculty is key to our value as an institution, and staying ahead of the curve is integral to their success as teachers and mentors. From groundbreaking psychology research projects, to the development, teaching, and adoption of new technologies in mental health care, we are investing in what's next .

5 - Infrastructure and environment

To accomplish each of these goals, William James College must invest in its infrastructure and technology. By taking full ownership of our campus at One Wells Avenue in Newton, we will be better positioned to meet both internal and external needs through additional learning spaces, collaborative spaces, and service centers for the community—and we will have the convening spaces necessary to host important conversations with leaders, stakeholders, and the public.
