BOSTON – September 1, 2015 – William James College (WJC), a leader in educating mental health professionals and the largest graduate psychology program in New England, announced Travis Bickford has been hired as Associate Director of Military and Veteran Relations.

As the Associate Director of Military and Veteran Relations, Travis will assist in the development of military and veteran programming in Field Education placement sites, as well as community engagement building and professional and personal development for the military and veterans community. He will also assist in identifying and expanding opportunities to better the veteran programs at William James College while providing a supportive community for military-connected students, their families, faculty and staff.

“Mental health issues represent a growing barrier for our nation’s servicemen and women,” said Nicholas Covino, PsyD, president of William James College. “I'm honored to welcome Travis to our staff at William James College as he works to provide veterans suffering from mental illnesses with the help they need and the opportunity to support those who served by their sides.”

Prior to joining William James College, Bickford served as the Director of Veterans History Projects at UMass Boston and District Director of Student Veteran Services at City Colleges of Chicago. While at both of these institutions, he was involved in writing grants in addition to working on many veteran initiatives, such as veteran recruitment and the Leave No Veteran Behind program and writing and passing a City of Chicago educational policy on transferring military credit. Travis was a Sergeant in the Army, serving active duty in Iraq as an Infantry Squad Leader in Baghdad.

“I admire the approach William James College takes to training and treating veterans to help those with mental health needs,” Bickford said. “I am honored to help drive this mission forward and am excited to bring my expertise to the team.”
