Discussion Groups: Special Student Populations
Students with IEP and 504 plans commonly have behavioral health and/or adaptive challenges in addition to learning challenges. These students are disproportionately impoverished, of color, and/or have parents or caregivers designated as “essential workers” with higher rates of pandemic illness, morbidity in death in their homes and communities. Many belong to groups that have also faced police shootings, hate crimes, and other stressors over recent months. Discussion will focus upon addressing their special needs and challenges while mobilizing their resiliencies as they return to classroom learning.
