  • Dissertation Approved with Distinction - 1994. An outcome study of detained Mariel refugees treated in a bilingual/bicultural inpatient substance abuse treatment program. Caribbean Center for Advanced Studies, Puerto Rico Institute of Psychology, San Juan, Puerto Rico.
  • U.S. Public Health Service Achievement Medal - 1994. In recognition of noteworthy accomplishments in the performance of duty, in support of the mission of the Refugee Mental Health Branch. Developed a database which allowed Branch personnel to triage and track all detained Mariel Cubans who required inpatient psychiatric evaluation and treatment, but who did not have a release decision from the Department of Justice.
