Caterina Duarte, MA

Clinical Psychology Doctoral Student (PsyD), Research Associate, Human Trafficking Research Hub

Caterina obtained a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from William James College in 2023 and is working towards obtaining her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology.

Caterina’s interest in trauma work became prevalent during her undergraduate studies. During this time, she also learned how much she enjoyed working with children and adolescents. Caterina’s interest in human trafficking began the first year of her Master’s program during her placement working with survivors of physical and sexual abuse. At the site, there was an individual who specialized in Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSES). This was the beginning of the exploration of the trauma of childhood sex trafficking for Caterina.

Caterina completed her undergraduate degree at Endicott College in Beverly, MA. She graduated with a BS in psychology and minors in creative arts therapy and criminal justice. She completed her senior thesis on creative arts therapy from the point of view of the creative arts therapist.

In terms of clinical work, Caterina has interest in alternative forms of therapy for survivors and how it can contribute to healing. Currently, Caterina works part time as a therapist for children and adolescents in Massachusetts. She is also working on her dissertation focusing on childhood sex trafficking. After graduating, she hopes to continue research and how alternative therapies can be used to promote healing for survivors.

Caterina enjoys dancing, fashion, art, the beach, and traveling, especially to visit her family in Europe.
