Hello there! My name is Julianna Rocha, and I am from Lincoln, RI. I recently graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, in December 2024, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. After graduating, I decided to take a gap year, hoping to acquire more hands-on experience in the workforce before applying to graduate school. The Behavioral Health Service Corps at William James College offers the best of both worlds: the opportunity to work full-time in the field of behavioral healthcare while gaining up to six (free!) credits toward a master’s degree. I was particularly drawn to the program’s commitment to mitigating disparities within the field and providing an experiential learning opportunity for recent graduates. My field placement is with Gateway Healthcare, as a Residential Case Worker, working in a group home for adults with severe and persistent mental illness. Leveraging the mentorship, professional development, and support within this program, I am discovering where I fit in the field and exploring my options for pursuing a degree in higher education. Please reach out with any questions or concerns you may have, or if you are interested in learning more about my experience with the BHSC, I would be happy to connect!
