Hello, prospective students!
My name is Leah Huling and I am a graduate of the Master's in Psychology program at William James College.
Originally from East Greenwich, RI - I currently live in South Boston MA! I earned my BA in Psychology from the University of New Hampshire, where I also interned at a community mental health center. Upon graduation from my undergraduate university, I felt the want to continue my education in psychology to enhance my knowledge in the field to ultimately give me a better opportunity for choosing a career path. Many personal and professional experiences led me to the psychology field, but expanding my expertise through the MAP program gave me a strong skill set to prepare myself for higher education.
When choosing a program that worked for me, I was in search of a community that promoted inclusivity and compassion for an individual aspiring to be in the mental health field. I can confidently say I found exactly what I was looking for through WJC's MAP Program. Having just graduated college and moving out on my own, I leaned on the WJC community to help guide me through different stages of this program. I valued the flexibility that the remote classroom gave me. Being able to financially support myself was important to me. Although most classwork was asynchronous, I was able to constantly connect with my cohort and faculty through group projects and check-in meetings.
My advice to students who are considering the MAP program, whether it is to enhance their knowledge or further their career, is to go the extra mile to connect to your WJC community in the program. The WJC faculty are always willing to answer questions, provide support, and just connect with you. Additionally, you will get out of the program exactly what you put in. Take the time to get to know the people around you (even if virtually) and build strong connections that will help you expand your knowledge and network!
Please feel free to reach out to me if you want to chat more about the MAP program or my experience applying to WJC!
