CMGH-600 - Spirituality and Mental Health
Credits: 2
This course examines the intersection of spirituality, religion, and mental health within contemporary psychological practice. Students will explore theoretical frameworks, empirical research, and ethical considerations related to spiritually integrated assessment, case conceptualization, and intervention. Emphasis is placed on culturally responsive practice, professional boundaries, and the role of spirituality in coping, resilience, trauma, grief, substance use recovery, and meaning-making across the lifespan.
Through lectures, readings, case discussions, and reflective activities, students will develop the skills necessary to thoughtfully and ethically engage clients’ spiritual and religious worldviews in clinical and community settings. The course encourages critical self-reflection on personal beliefs and professional identity while preparing students.
