This course will focus on the major dynamics of couple and family relationships as well as the theory and practice effective in counseling them. Family therapy theories from a variety of modern and post modern perspectives will provide the basis for understanding and counseling couples and families. Relevant issues will be integrated into classroom discussions and role-plays. The importance of diversity and difference will be addressed throughout the course, such as gender and power issues, social class, and other socio-cultural factors. Open only to students in the master’s program in Counseling Psychology. Pre-requisite: CX510.
