Hi! My name is Anika Sareen, and I’m a student in the Clinical PsyD program at William James College, concentrating in Asian Mental Health. I’m originally from Princeton, New Jersey, and I strongly identify with my South Asian roots. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology from NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, graduating in May 2022. Before starting at William James, I spent a gap year working in Talent Acquisition at Alkermes, a biotech company in Waltham, MA that specializes in mental health medications.
I chose William James College because it is the only PsyD program in the country offering a concentration in Asian Mental Health—a subject I’m deeply passionate about and a population I hope to serve in my future work. My goal is to help reduce stigma within my community and expand access to mental health care for those who need it.
During my time at WJC, I completed my first-year practicum at Vendetti Wellness Group, a private group practice in Framingham, where I worked with children and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, low self-esteem, and identity-related concerns. I’m currently completing my second-year practicum at Wheaton College Counseling Center, working with transitional-age youth navigating similar challenges, and supporting crisis management efforts.
On campus, I’ve been a statistics teaching assistant and actively involved in the Asian Mental Health concentration and alliance groups. I’ve participated in planning and organizing several events, including Diwali, Lunar New Year, and the Asian Mental Health Career Day.
My advice to new WJC students is: ask questions, advocate for yourself, and network as much as you can!
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the Clinical PsyD program or the Asian Mental Health concentration—I’m always happy to chat!
