My name is Chrystal, and I’m a second-year student in the Clinical Psychology PsyD program at William James College. I earned my BS in Psychology from the University of Maryland Global Campus while serving active duty in the United States Military as a Military Police Officer. Before starting the doctoral program, I worked as a pediatric ABA therapist supporting children and families through individualized interventions. These experiences deepened my passion for the field and helped shape the kind of psychologist I hope to become
My first-year practicum was in a Child and Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program, where I led groups and supported youth navigating emotional and behavioral challenges. Currently, I’m completing my second-year practicum at a College Mental Health Center, where I provide individual therapy to college students working through academic, social, and emotional stressors. I also volunteer with the Crisis Text Line, offering support to people in moments of crisis, and I’m involved on campus through the WJC ACES Student Engagement Team. I value creating affirming, inclusive spaces for people of all backgrounds and bringing that same mindset to my work with clients and peers.
I originally chose William James College because of its strong Neuropsychology program and the early hands-on learning opportunities. The faculty here are incredibly passionate and supportive, and the emphasis on experiential learning makes everything you study feel more meaningful and connected to your goals. My best advice for new students is to stay curious, get involved, and practice time management. Take care of yourself, build connections, and make time for rest and joy along the way.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions. I’d be happy to share more about my experiences at WJC! Good Luck!
