Hello prospective students!
My name is Valeria Serrano. I am a full-time student in the Clinical Psychology PsyD program here at William James College! I grew up in the small town of Elizabeth, New Jersey, home to many Colombians like myself. I received my Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Temple University in 2023 and came to William James College in 2024. I chose William James for many reasons, but the biggest reason was its unwavering commitment to serving underserved communities, like my own. The wide range of concentrations offered was another great advantage! Currently, I am a member of the Latino Mental Health Program (LMHP) and am looking forward to also joining the Neuropsychology concentration.
Being a first-generation student myself, I know how intimidating applying to graduate school can be. My best advice for prospective and incoming students is to always try and go outside your comfort zone, because you never know how far it will get you. Being at William James College has exposed me to so many new opportunities, such as allowing me to put my clinical skills to the test right away and meet amazing professors who have a great amount of experience. After my time at William James, I hope to ultimately become a licensed Clinical Neuropsychologist focusing on promoting equitable mental health care for all.
Feel free to contact me at vserrano24@williamjames.edu with any questions about my current experience here at William James College. I’d love to share more about my experience here and help in any way that I can! I wish you the absolute best on your journey to grad school :)
