My name is Sophia Mello, and I am from Fall River, Massachusetts. Fluent in Portuguese, I take immense pride in my rich heritage and cultural background. Currently, I am a second-year doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology PsyD program at William James College (WJC), where I concentrate in forensic psychology. My journey at WJC has been nothing short of remarkable, especially in exploring the dynamic field of forensic psychology. The opportunities available for concentration students like myself are truly exceptional at WJC. With aspirations to carve a career path in forensic psychology, I've found WJC to be the perfect launchpad for my ambitions to become a Forensic Psychologist one day.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I serve as a Graduate Research Assistant within the office of Program Development, Monitoring, and Evaluation at WJC. Here, I've had the privilege to collaborate with and learn from exceptional individuals and contribute to significant research projects within the college's community programs.
What drew me to WJC wasn't just its outstanding faculty, though they certainly played a pivotal role in my decision, but rather the opportunity to continue serving something so important to me, my community. Through the consortium opportunity, I can actively engage with and make a tangible impact on the communities close to home while achieving my doctorate degree.
If there's one piece of advice I could offer, it's this: embrace involvement, curiosity, and the willingness to tackle new challenges. The support network at WJC, involving dedicated faculty, professors, and advisors, has been instrumental in shaping my enriching journey thus far. Reach out, explore, and seize every opportunity that comes your way. Lastly, please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about William James College or my experience! I am looking forward to hearing from you.
