Exercise and Fitness Education
CN642 - Exercise and Fitness Education
Credits: 3
This graduate-level course examines the scientific, behavioral, and cultural foundations of exercise and fitness education. Students engage with key sub-disciplines of the sport and exercise sciences - including exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, sports medicine, nutrition, motor behavior, biomechanics, coaching, and contemporary social issues - to understand how each domain shapes exercise behavior, human performance, and holistic well-being across diverse populations and settings.
Designed within a CMPC-aligned curriculum, the course emphasizes the application of behavior change theory, motivation science, culturally responsive communication, and evidence-based educational strategies that promote sustainable physical activity and performance. Students learn to translate complex exercise science concepts into accessible educational materials, develop strategies to enhance exercise adherence, and collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary professionals in fitness, health, and performance environments.
By the end of the course, students will be able to integrate sport and exercise science principles with CMPC competencies to support meaningful behavior change and contribute ethically, inclusively, and effectively to exercise and fitness education within diverse communities.
