Choose Excellence with a Graduate Certificate in Mental Performance Consulting
The Graduate Certificate in Mental Performance Consulting at William James College is 12 credits and only one semester (approximately 4 months). The certificate aligns with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) Graduate Program Standards, ensuring students gain the knowledge and skills for a career in mental performance consulting.
Students in this concentration will:
- Develop a strong foundation in sport and performance psychology theories, research, and evidence-based interventions.
- Gain knowledge in individual and group interventions, including psychological skills training, motivation, confidence building, and resilience.
- Understand ethical and professional standards for mental performance consulting, including AASP's Code of Ethics and the boundaries of practice.
- Apply cultural competence and diversity considerations in consulting with athletes, performers, and other client populations.
- Acquire skills in consulting and coaching techniques for working with athletes, military personnel, business professionals, and other performers.

According to the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, Certified Mental Performance Consultants® (CMPCs) work with athletes and performers to develop the mental skills necessary for top performance. Mental Performance Consultants apply psychological principles to enhance performance, well-being and personal development in sport, exercise, and other performance domains.
