This course introduces students to the characteristics and practices of applied behavior analytic interventions for people with autism spectrum disorder and developmental disabilities. Students learn examples of the approach to intervention for various goals, such as teaching language and communication, independence, and self-care skills, and addressing and replacing severe problem behavior. This course also covers historical issues in the treatment of people with ASD in terms of impact on contemporary policies and practices in ABA. Social, cultural, and ethical issues related to ABA, its effectiveness and acceptability are also discussed.
