This introductory survey course provides a broad overview of behavioral health topics relevant to community health workers (CHWs) and paraprofessionals. Designed for new or aspiring CHWs, the course introduces fundamental behavioral health concepts and emphasizes the CHW’s role in promoting health equity, prevention, and community well-being. Topics include trauma-informed care, cultural humility, substance use and addiction, suicide prevention, motivational interviewing, telehealth, ethical practice, health literacy, and maternal and family wellness. While aligned with CHW competencies, this course is not a clinical skills training and is intended as an orientation to behavioral   health principles, systems, and service models for entry-level public and community health work.
