SCH CN635 - Eating Disorders, Weight, and Health

Credits: 3

This course examines eating and weight concerns across a continuum through a biopsychosocial lens. The course begins with a comprehensive overview of eating disorders, assessment, treatment issues, and evidenced-based models and interventions. The course also examines weight diversity by exploring the medicalization of overweight and obesity, trends in weight gain in the United States and worldwide, as well as medical and psychological treatment interventions to aid with weight management. The course will discuss how social determinants and social inequities impact nutrition, weight, and health, and thus introduce why a public health perspective is necessary. The course concludes with a focus on weight stigma, its harmful effects, and how mental health providers can promote health, balanced eating and movement, and improved body image.
