This course will relate the field of educational therapy to educational planning and psycho-educational intervention for students with remedial and special needs. Pedagogical perspectives, family dynamics, strength-based approaches, and system issues will be explored as key factors in designing individualized interventions. Classroom discussions of readings and professional experience will be framed within a multicultural perspective that considers the relationship of social justice and human rights to education. In addressing pedagogical perspectives and dynamics in educational settings, students will consider the place of schools and learning within the broader context of society. Students will examine the model of educational therapy in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the relationships that exist among learning, emotions, empathic intelligence, and neurobiology. Open only to students in the doctoral program in School Psychology.
