Juneteenth Celebration

Juneteenth commemorates the end of legal slavery in the United States by marking the date in 1865 when African Americans in southern Texas were finally informed by Union soldiers that they were free. This was two years after the Emancipation Proclamation and one year after the passing of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. Today June 19th is celebrated all over the United States, especially in African American communities, as a day of liberation.
