This scholarship was created in memory of Christopher O’Connor thanks to the generosity of his family and friends. As a doctoral student at William James College, Chris inspired his fellow students, faculty, and staff with his humor, independence, courage, and commitment. Though his time at William James College was tragically cut short, his impact was significant.
Given his capacity to help his fellow students find their voice and speak their truth – and his personal interest in and commitment to supporting individuals on the path to recovery – the Christopher O’Connor Scholarship will be awarded to incoming students with a demonstrated commitment to helping individuals, families, and/or communities suffering through the impacts of opioid and substance use disorders.
To be eligible, new students must be entering the Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at William James, commit to enroll in the Substance Use and Addictions Concentration. And maintain good academic standing throughout their enrollment. This $10,000 grant will be awarded in installments over two years as long as eligibility requirements are maintained.
Interested and eligible students should indicate their intention to enroll in the Substance Use and Addictions Concentration on their application and discuss this in their application materials. Such students will then be automatically reviewed and recipients will be informed of the award along with their admissions offer.
