Treating Addiction by Overcoming Stigma

“As more people become better informed that substance use is an illness of the brain and not a moral failing, then will we be able to move toward a collective approach to overcoming stigma, ” said William James College Director of Public Education, Dr. David B. Herzog in a recent interview on NECN’s The Take with Sue O’Connell. He, alongside Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan CEO of the Dimock Center, discussed the epidemic of opioid addiction and how the stigma surrounding addiction and mental illness perpetuates the problem. The segment was a precursor to the Moving Beyond Stigma forum sponsored by William James College.
